Sometimes everything seems boring, especially when you're sitting alone in your room. Finding things to occupy your time can feel frustrating or even impossible. When you get bored, instead of turning on the television or calling or texting a friend, do something that makes you feel better about yourself and expresses who you are as an individual.

Read

Browse the shelves in your room or home for books or magazines you'd like to read. You can also read the full text of many copyright-free books online or read news or feature stories on the Internet.

Write

Do some creative writing. Write a poem or short story or start a novel or nonfiction book. Write in a journal about what you've done that day or about how you're feeling. You can even pen a letter to the editor of your local newspaper on an issue about which you feel passionate.

Set Goals

Make a list of where you see yourself in a month, six months or a year. Set personal goals such as "I'd want to lose 10 pounds," "I'd like to get straight A's this semester" or "I'd like to finish my college applications." Next, write down how you will attain those goals. For example, you might write, "I'm going to cut out sweets and walk every day;" "I'm going to spend three hours on my schoolwork every night;" or "I'm going to complete one application per week."

Create Art

Draw pictures, make collages, paint or engage in other arts or crafts projects. Artwork can be made from items found in the home, including pens, markers, fabric scraps, glue, glitter, old magazines or books and construction paper.

Organize And Clean

Set out four boxes and mark them with the following labels: "Keep," "Throw Away," "Recycle" and "Give Away." Go through your belongings and place each of them in one of the boxes. Only keep what truly makes you happy or things that you need. Paring down what's in your room and organizing it can make you feel mentally and emotionally lighter and help you be more productive and content. After you've finished organizing, dust all surfaces and vacuum or sweep the floor.
