Look like you hail from south of the border with a lovely homemade senorita outfit. Whether its for a Cinco de Mayo celebration, Halloween, a costume party or a fiesta, an outfit inspired by the traditional clothing of Latina senoritas is colorful, eye-catching and fun to wear. Skip the costume store and put your craftiness and creativity to work by creating your own senorita outfit from items purchased at thrift stores and craft shops.
Step 1
Purchase a knee-length skirt, preferably one in a bold solid color, such as fuchsia, red or teal.

Step 2
Measure the circumference of the skirt and mark every 3 inches, from the top to the bottom. Cut several pieces of ruffles, in a single bold color or various shades of red, magenta, gold or green. Pin the pieces in place around the skirt and then sew them on.
Step 3
Top off the skirt with a white short-sleeve blouse. A top with a peasant-style, draw strings or puffy sleeves will work best with a senorita's outfit.
Step 4
Turn a Mexican woven blanket into a colorful poncho by cutting a 10-inch slit in the center, then pulling the slit over your head. Alternatively, cut a triangle out of the center for a roomier neck-hole.
Step 5
Stick a silk flower behind your ear. Hat lovers can wear a festive sombrero instead.
Step 6
Wear strappy leather sandals on your feet.
