Goldtone metal is designed to resemble gold. Goldtone can tarnish just like brass. You can easily remove the tarnish with metal polish, but you must take caution since the plating is very thin and will easily wear off with aggressive polishing.
Things You'll Need

Add a few drops of mild dish soap to a sink of warm water. Wash the piece of goldtone metal in the soapy water with a cotton rag. Wipe the metal dry with a cotton towel.
Apply a small amount of fine-grit metal polish to the corner of a microfiber cloth. You can find metal polish at automotive supply stores or jewelry stores.
Rub the polish over the tarnish with small, circular motions. Add additional polish as needed until you completely polish the tarnish off the metal surface.
Rinse the metal in clean water, and dry it with a clean cotton towel.
