How to Make Teriyaki Sauce

Teriyaki sauce is a little bit sweet and a little bit salty. It's commonly used in stir-fry recipes or rice bowls, or served with chicken, pork, or beef and vegetables. Many recipes use a Japanese sweet rice wine. This version should produce a teriyaki taste without that product.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

Video of the Day

Place a small saucepan over low heat.

Combine the ingredients in the saucepan. Simmer until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens. Stir frequently.

Baste food with the sauce and cook according to your recipe. Periodically brush with more sauce throughout the cooking process.
