Lemon Slices

There are a few different methods that are known to work well for removing food smells from a microwave. The first method involves using lemon slices. Take two to three slices of a lemon and set them in a microwave-safe dish. Add one cup of water to the the dish. Put the dish in the microwave and turn the power on for about one minute or until the water comes to a boil. Once the water comes to a boil, turn the microwave off and leave the dish in the microwave with the door closed for an hour.

Vinegar

Another method that works well for removing food smells from a microwave involves using vinegar. Put one cup of vinegar in a microwave-safe dish. Set the dish in the microwave and turn the power on for about one minute or until the vinegar comes to a boil. Once the vinegar comes to a boil, turn the microwave off and leave the dish in the microwave with the door closed for about five minutes. Remove the dish from the microwave and and use the warm vinegar to wipe down the inside of the microwave.

Coffee Grounds

A method that uses coffee grounds is another way to remove food smells from a microwave. Put four tablespoons of coffee into a large microwave-safe mug. Add one cup of water to the mug. Set the mug in the microwave and turn the power on for two minutes. Remove the mug when it is cool to the touch.

Baking Soda Blend

If the food smell in the microwave persists and the above methods don't seem to work, another method uses baking soda blend. Combine 1/4 cup of baking soda with one quart of hydrogen peroxide and a tablespoon of dish soap in a bucket. Use this solution and a sponge to scrub the entire inside of the microwave. After cleaning the microwave with this solution, rinse the sponge in warm water and wipe down the inside of the microwave.
