Hosting a high-school graduation open house is a great way to celebrate your child's entry in to the adult world. Hosting a successful open house doesn't have to be difficult. There are a variety of venues and activities to choose from that will ensure that your child will remember and appreciate their high-school graduation.
Selecting the Correct Location
Some people host high-school open houses at their homes, while others rent party halls. Where your open house takes place depends largely on your budget and the available space you have at your home. People that live in rural areas should consider hosting an open house at their home. People that live in busy subdivisions or in apartment/townhouse/condo communities should rent a hall. Select a location that is convenient to the guests, and also fits your budget.
Selecting the Correct Menu
High-school open houses are not complete without an adequately planned meal. Some popular options are barbecue dinners, pizza, fried chicken and catered food. If the open house will take place outdoors, make sure that the food is adequately cared for to make sure that it does not spoil or make people ill. If you rent a hall for your high-school open house party, check with the hall to see if there are catering services offered at a discount. Many party halls have agreements with local caterers and they can get you a discount through referral. Another great option for a high-school open house menu is hosting a potluck meal. This is perfect if budget is an issue and your guests are close friends and family. Simply have a line on your RSVP card where your guests can tell you what they plan to bring.
Honoring the Graduate
Honoring the high-school graduate is the purpose of hosting your open house party. Some ways to celebrate your graduate is to set up a table with all their awards. This is great for a high-school graduate that has won a series of sports or academic awards. Making a DVD slide show of pictures of the high-school graduate set to music and playing it during the open house is another great way to honor the graduate. If open house guests are going to bear gifts, make sure to set up a gift table with a box to put cards in. A great card box idea is to take a box and then take a piece of cardboard and glue it on top of the box. The cardboard needs to be slightly larger than the box to make it look like a graduation cap. Paint the card box the graduate's school color or black. You can make a tassel out of yarn to hot glue to the top of the cap for added decoration.
