How to Clean Stainless Steel Washers

Stainless steel appliances are favorites among homeowners for their modern, sleek appearance. Stainless steel washing machines can get dirty from laundry detergent, fingerprints or dirt and grime. You can clean stainless steel washers with regular household cleaning items.

Clean stainless steel washers regularly to remove the appearance of fingerprints.

  1. Soak a clean cloth in warm water, and wipe down the entire surface of the stainless steel washer.

  2. Dry the surface immediately with a paper towel to prevent drip marks from drying on the machine.

  3. If grease residue is left on the washer, mix 1 cup of water with several drops of mild dishwashing detergent. Dip a cloth in the water, and wipe down the surface of the stainless steel washing machine.

  4. Dry the surface immediately with paper towels to prevent drips and streak marks from forming.

  5. If a grease residue is still visible, dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and use it to rub the grease stains. Rise the area with a cloth soaked in clear water.

  6. If the stainless steel washer is stained and the above steps did not remove it, mix a paste of 1 tsp. of baking soda and a few drops of water. Apply the paste to the stain with a clean cloth, and let it sit on the cloth for 15 to 20 minutes.

  7. Rinse the area with a cloth soaked in clear water.

  8. Dry the surface completely to prevent streak and drip marks from developing.

  9. Tip

    Never use harsh abrasive cleaners as they can permanently scratch the surface of the washer.
