How to Remove Red Dye Stains From JELL-O

Kim Carter

Red Jello is a popular dessert, but unfortunately, the red dye in the Jello can result in a permanent stain if not treated promptly. It can be very difficult to remove the red stains from Jello; the red stain can set very fast, so it is important to treat the stain as soon as possible.

Red Jello can cause a permanent stain.
  1. Apply cold water to the stain immediately. Cold water will prevent the stain from setting into the fabric permanently. Jello has protein in it and if hot water is used, it will cook the protein and cause the stain to set in.

  2. Mix together a small amount of ammonia and cold water. Dab the ammonia solution onto the red Jello stain with a paper towel. Gently rub the ammonia solution into the stain.

  3. If the stain seems like it is not coming out, sprinkle a little bit of salt on the stain and rub it in. Dab some more of the ammonia mixture on to the stain and rub it in.

  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until the stain is gone. Make sure you do not to wash the garment until the stain is gone, otherwise the stain will set in the fabric. After the stain is gone, wash the garment as you normally would in cold water.
