How to Use Denatured Alcohol to Clean Windows

Melynda Sorrels

Improper cleaning of your windows can lead to streaks, lingering residue and haziness obstructing your view to the outside world.

A little denatured alcohol goes a long way in cleaning your windows.

Rather than running to the store and purchasing the first glass cleaning product that touts its “streak free” capabilities, the answer to perfectly clear windows may already be in your cabinet. Denatured alcohol is an efficient alternative to other glass cleaners that goes above and beyond in eliminating dirt, grease and grime as well as giving your windows a sparkling shine.

Tip

Add a drop of a bleach free dish soap to the solution to help cut through tough grease and grime.

Warning

Store denatured alcohol in a safe place out of the reach of children and pets.

  1. Mix equal parts warm distilled water and denatured alcohol in a spray bottle.

  2. Spray the solution directly onto the window making sure to evenly cover the glass.

  3. Wipe the window with a piece of crumpled up newspaper or a microfiber towel to remove the dirt and clean the window.

  4. Wipe the window with a dry newspaper or microfiber cloth to polish the glass and restore the shine.
