How to Make Glass Paperweights

Everyone can benefit from a paperweight. You can make your own paperweight using a picture of a special vacation or person, or images cut out of magazines. This makes a great project to do with your kids. Give them for Father's day, as Christmas presents or to a favorite teacher.

Things You'll Need:

  • Self Stick Felt Pad
  • Box Cutter
  • Photo Or Image
  • Optional—Glass Beads, Tiny Seashells, Ribbon
  • Clear Blank Paperweight
  • Decoupage Glue

Purchase a clear blank glass paperweight. These can purchased at most local craft stores or online; see resources below. The paperweight can be any size or shape.

Find a picture or image you want to use for your paperweight. Lay the paperweight on top of the picture; center the picture. Trace around the bottom edge of the paperweight onto the picture; remove the paperweight. Cut out the picture; cut inside the tracing marks slightly so that it is smaller than the bottom of the paperweight.

Apply a thin layer of decoupage glue with a paintbrush to the bottom side of the glass paperweight. White craft glue can also be used; thin glue down with a little water.

Add the picture to the bottom of the paperweight while the decoupage is still wet. Be sure the picture is face side up so it shows through the paperweight. Apply more decoupage glue over the bottom of the picture; let dry.

Cut a piece of self stick felt to fit over the bottom of the paperweight. Remove the paper backing from the felt and stick over the bottom of the picture.

If desired glue glass beads, tiny seashells or other decorations around the edges of the paperweight.
