How to Make a Pineapple Ginger Agua Fresca

Agua fresca, a refreshing drink made by blending fresh fruit with water and sugar, is quite popular throughout Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Put a new spin on this traditional beverage by adding extra layers of flavor with ingredients such as ginger or mint. Choose a combination you like and make a drink that suits your taste. Things You'll Need

  • 1 large pineapple, roughly chopped into 1-inch pieces (about 5 cups)  
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups water, divided
  • Blender
  • Fine mesh sieve
  • 1 medium bowl
  • 1 sealable container
  • Ice

Step 1: Add the Ingredients to a Blender

Place the pineapple pieces, peeled ginger, sugar and 1 1/2 cups of water into a blender. Blend everything together until smooth.

  • If your blender can't fit all the ingredients at once, simply blend it in batches.

Step 2: Strain the Contents

Use a fine mesh sieve to strain the mixture into a medium bowl.

Step 3: Add Water and Sugar

Add the remaining 2 cups of water, stir and taste. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add more sugar.

Step 4: Store in the Refrigerator

Pour the agua fresca into a container, and store in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve.

Step 5: Pour on Ice and Serve

Serve over ice and enjoy!
