Your mom probably told you not to play with glue when you were younger because she didn't want you making a mess and everything sticky. But if you add a couple of simple ingredients to Elmer's glue, the result is slime -- a rubbery, moldable substance similar to Silly Putty. By turning glue into slime you can play with glue without making a sticky mess, and that's sure to leave your mom happy while keeping you entertained.
Things You'll Need
- 8 oz. bottle of Elmer's glue
- Mixing bowl
- Food coloring, optional
- Craft stick for stirring
- Measuring cup
- Measuring spoons
- Sealable plastic bag
Empty the bottle of glue into the mixing bowl.
Fill the empty glue bottle with water, replace the cap, shake the bottle and pour the mixture into the bowl with the glue.
Add food coloring if you wish and stir the mixture with the craft stick to blend it.
Measure a half cup of water, add a teaspoon of Borax and stir it to dissolve the Borax.
Add some of the Borax solution to the glue mixture while stirring the glue with the craft stick. The mixture will thicken. Add more Borax solution until you're satisfied with the texture of your slime. More Borax will create a firmer slime, while less makes a stringier slime. Store the finished slime in the plastic bag.
