How Can I Glitter My Filler Flowers?

Use glitter to liven up floral arrangements.

Floral arrangements are sent for many occasions: birthdays, anniversaries and congratulation gifts are only a few. Typical arrangements include one or two main flowers along with filler flowers to fill in empty spaces and make the arrangement appear fuller. You can personalize arrangements by adding glitter to some or all of the filler flowers. There are a couple methods for adding glitter, and they can be done on both fresh and fake floral arrangements.

Things You'll Need:

  • Newspaper
  • Glitter Pen Or Marker
  • Filler Flowers--Fake Or Real
  • Q-Tips
  • Glitter Paint
  • Glue
  • Glitter

Take the filler flowers out of the arrangement. If you have not added them to the arrangement yet, keep them out.

Lay the flowers on top of the newspaper, on a flat surface. For smaller flowers like baby's breath, use glitter paint. Spray a coat of glitter paint lightly over the flowers, and then allow one hour for drying. Repeat until you achieve the glitter effect desired.

Use a Q-tip to add glitter to larger flowers. Coat the end of the cotton swab with glue; dot the glue onto the flower petals where you want to place glitter.

Add glitter by gently pouring glitter onto the fresh glue. Allow at least 30 minutes for the glue to dry. Shake any extra glitter off of the flowers. Repeat this process as necessary until you achieve desired results.

Use a glitter pen or marker to fill in any "bare" spots in the flowers.

Place the flowers gently into the arrangement.

Tip

Real flowers are more delicate than silk flowers; before using a glitter pen or marker test a spot on an unneeded flower.

Warnings:

  • Excess glitter may fall onto other flowers when placing the fillers into the arrangement. Gently but thoroughly shake excess glitter from the petals.
