Modeling clay is a popular craft for children and you can keep costs down by making your clay at home. Many fast-drying clay recipes require baking, but a no-bake option increases convenience. Recycling dryer lint to produce clay produces a fast-drying clay without baking and is also environmentally conscientious.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 cups dryer lint
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 6 tablespoons white glue
  • 1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
  • 2 cup measuring cup
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Wax paper

Video of the Day

Remove lint from your dryer and place it into the 2 cup measuring cup. Pack the lint firmly until the measuring cup is full.

Combine lint, water, dishwashing liquid and glue in the mixing bowl. Mix using the wooden spoon until the ingredients are too thick to stir.

Place a sheet of wax paper on the counter. Pour the ingredients onto the wax paper.

Knead the ingredients until the clay achieves a thick, uniform consistency. Mold into the desired shapes or store in a plastic bag for later use.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want colored clay instead of white clay, add food coloring to the ingredients prior to mixing.
  • If the clay starts to dry too quickly, add a few drops of water.
  • The clay ingredients are very sticky. If you spill any clay, clean up quickly before it hardens.
