Denim jackets are a fashion staple that never goes out of style. It's sometimes difficult to find a jacket that fits perfectly, since every body is different. Stretching often occurs when denim jackets and pants are worn often, making your clothes look frumpy and ill-fitted. Fortunately, there are a few ways to temporarily shrink your denim jacket at home quickly and inexpensively.
Things You'll Need
Put your jacket into the washing machine alone and set on the highest water temperature. If working with darker denim, turn it inside out to prevent from fading. The hot water helps the denim contract and shrink. Let the jacket run through the whole cycle and put in the dryer on the hottest temperature. Leave the jacket in for at least one hour before removing. Use caution, as metal parts on the jacket will be hot and may burn.
Boil a large pot of water on the stove and place your jacket in. Turn the heat down to low and leave the jacket in for about 30 minutes. Dump the pot out into the sink and pick up the jacket carefully; it will be extremely hot. Place in the dyer for an hour or more on high heat.
Fill a spray bottle with hot water and spray on the areas you want the jacket to shrink. Place the jacket on an ironing board or flat surface and iron on the highest setting. Do not burn the fabric; keep the iron moving. Put on the jacket when it's cool, to check for desired shrinkage.
