How to Make a Table Skirt Using Tulle

Things You'll Need

  • Table

  • Tape measure

  • Tulle

  • Scissors

  • Needle

  • Thread

  • Sewing machine

Tulle fabric can be made into a table skirt that will glam up any party. Tulle is also known as netting and is available in a wide variety of colors; it often features attached sparkles or designs such as stripes. A benefit of using tulle is that it will not fray, eliminating the necessity for hemming and finishing the edges. Because tulle is semitransparent, a gathered table skirt, made with hand-stitching, will create the biggest impact.

Step 1

Measure the perimeter of the table and triple it to determine the yardage needed for the tulle skirt. Measure the height of the table.

Step 2

Cut the tulle to the length needed for the gathered skirt and to the height of the table. Piece together sections of fabric if necessary to attain the length.

Step 3

Hand-sew a basting stitch along the edge of the fabric, 1/2 inch from the edge. Pull the thread every 24 inches to gather the fabric, securing the gathers with small stitches.

Step 4

Cut a piece of tulle fabric that is the length and width of the top of the table and add 1/2 inch to each measurement.

Step 5

Sew the skirt to the tabletop fabric with a 1/2-inch straight seam, using a sewing machine or a needle and thread. Place the skirt on the table.
