Orcas, or killer whales, are beautiful, dramatic sea creatures. Their likeness makes a great choice of costume for an underwater theme party or Halloween. Search thrift stores for suitable items for your costume and collect some basic craft supplies. With a little effort and imagination, you will create an impressive and inexpensive costume.

Things You'll Need

  • Black hooded sweatshirt
  • Black sweatpants
  • White, black, and pink felt
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
  • Black and white craft foam
  • Hot glue
  • Thick cardboard box

Video of the Day

Wear an oversized black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants as a base for your costume. If the sleeves are large enough, cut them off to a point at the cuffs and sew the seam up to make flipper shapes that your hands go inside.

Cut a large pointed oval of white felt and glue it to the front of the shirt with fabric glue to create the white belly.

Wear the black hood up to create the top of the whale's head. Add white teeth cut from white craft foam around the edge of the hood. Hot glue them in position.

Cut a pointed oval of white felt for the bottom jaw and hot glue it to the neck of the sweatshirt, so it stands up in front of the face. Line it with pink felt and add white craft foam teeth around the edge.

Glue white felt shapes for eye markings to the back of the hood. Cut fin shapes from cardboard and glue black felt onto them. Hot glue them to the back of the sweatshirt.

Cut a tail shape from cardboard. Cover it in black felt and attach it to the rear of one pant leg with hot glue, so that you can still walk in the costume.
