Captain Hook is the classic villain from J. M Barrie's "Peter Pan." Captain Hook is one of the few adults in Neverland, and spends most of his time terrorizing the natives and the Lost Boys. Captain Hook has a very distinctive outfit, complete with a red or black pirate hat, depending on the version of Captain Hook you are using. The Disney Captain Hook has a red hat, while the movie "Hook" has a Captain Hook with a black hat. Simply spray-paint the hat whichever color you want to match your preferred appearance for the captain.

Step 1

Fill a tub or bucket halfway with water. Soak the straw hat in the bucket overnight. After it has soaked, remove the hat from the water. Fold one side of the hat brim up toward the crown of the hat. Hold the side of the hat in place with a large safety pin. Allow the hat to dry for 24 hours, or until completely dry.

Step 2

Spray the hat red using spray-paint. Spray on one coat and allow the hat to dry for one hour. Spray on a second coat and allow the hat to dry overnight. Spray on any additional coats of paint if necessary and allow them to dry.

Step 3

Hot-glue gold braid around the brim of the hat. Turn the hat upside down. Spread some straight lines of craft glue from the inside of the crown of the hat to the brim. Sprinkle the glue with gold glitter. Allow the glue to dry for at least two hours.

Step 4

Glue a large white or red feather to the bent side of the hat using hot glue. You can use one feather for the cartoon version of the captain, or use several feathers for the live movie version of the captain.
