Things You'll Need

  • Measuring cup

  • Rice

  • Water

Rice is a grain used in almost every culture, providing potassium, fiber, vitamin B and other essential nutrients. The Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker is a small kitchen appliance that makes rice cooking easy. Manufactured by the Japanese company Zojirushi, this rice cooker is completely automated, keeping the rice warm after cooking is completed, and allowing the cook to attend to other kitchen duties without having to watch the stove.

Step 1

Determine if your rice is pre-washed before you use the Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker. Pre-washed rice has already been rinsed to remove starchy residue that can make your cooked rice thick and glutinous. Most bagged and boxed rice marketed in the United States has been pre-washed. If you're cooking imported rice that appears dusty when you pour it into a cup, your rice is likely not pre-washed.

Step 2

Plug the cord to the Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker into a nearby electrical outlet and place the machine on a flat surface.

Step 3

Take the inner pan out of the cavity of the rice cooker and place on a flat surface to facilitate accurate measuring of the rice.

Step 4

Scoop your desired amount of rice into a measuring cup and place in the inner pan. If the rice is not pre-washed, rinse with cold water until all traces of dusty or powdery residue have been removed.

Step 5

Pour cold water into the inner pan, using the markings on the pan as a guide. For example, if you're making 4 cups of rice, use the corresponding markings on the pan: fill to level 4. There are three sets of water line markings on the inner pain, one for white rice—use this same demarcation for brown rice—one for sushi rice and one for porridge.

Step 6

Set the inner pan into the cavity of the machine and close the top lid. If you're using pre-washed rice, press the "pre-wash" button.

Step 7

Select the type of rice you're cooking by pressing the "menu" button. You'll see a hatch mark or small arrow beside each option as you scroll through. Choices include white, sushi, harder, softer, mixed, sweet, porridge, semi-brown or brown. Softer and harder refer to the consistency of the rice—either soft and sticky or harder and crunchy.

Step 8

Press the "cook/heat" button on the Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker. The cooking time will display, and it will count down in the options window. The cooker will beep when cooking is completed.

Step 9

Open the top lid of the machine, and stir the rice to loosen it and to prevent individual grains from becoming stuck in the inner pan. Press the "reset" button, unplug the machine and transfer the rice to a serving bowl.

Step 10

Wash the inner pan with cool water and a sponge when it's cool. Allow the pan to dry before placing it back into the rice cooker.

Tip

There are several different models of the Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker. If your appliance's function buttons do not look the same as the NS-ZCC10/18, Zojirushi has a collection of rice cooker manuals on their website.
