A theatrical stage, ready for props and actors

Stick phones are the quintessential Victorian era phone. Many movies and plays take place in the Victorian era, so a stick phone prop may be necessary. It can be incredibly hard to find an old stick phone or an already made stick phone prop. However, it's rather easy to make a homemade stick phone prop out of common household materials. Anybody can make an inexpensive stick phone prop in about a half an hour or less.

Step 1

Place a paper bowl face down on a flat surface and glue one end of an empty paper towel roll to the bottom of the bowl. This will form the base of the phone.

Step 2

Bend the top 2 inches of the end of the paper towel roll down slightly. Glue a tuna can to the bent-over edge of the paper towel roll.

Step 3

Glue the bottom of a paper cup to the other side of the tuna can. This will be the mouthpiece of the phone.

Step 4

Cut a piece of craft wire that is 4 inches long and curve it into a U shape. Glue this piece of wire to the middle of the side of the paper towel roll, with the ends of the wire facing outward.

Step 5

Cut a piece of craft string that is 24 inches long and glue one end of it to the bottom of the phone base. Glue the other end to the bottom of the second paper cup. This will form the earpiece of the phone.

Step 6

Spray paint the entire prop black and place the earpiece of the phone into the wire U. Bend the wire to fit the earpiece, if needed.
