My Andersen Sliding Door Is Squeaking

Cody Sorensen

An Andersen sliding door is held in place at the top and bottom. Rollers inside the top and bottom of the door slide on guide ribs within the door frame's upper and lower channels. As debris builds up on these guide ribs, the rollers can begin to stick and squeak when the door is opened and closed.

A squeaking door doesn't have to be permanent.

A non-oil-based lubricant applied to the rollers keeps them working properly and stops squeaks. Andersen recommends the use of a dry-silicone spray.

  1. Wipe the door track with a clean rag to remove all debris that may be inhibiting proper roller movement.

  2. Remove the roller-adjustment caps located on the bottom of the operating panel using a flat-head screwdriver.

  3. Spray the rollers using a dry-silicone spray lubricant. Replace the adjustment caps.

  4. Slide the door back and forth until the squeaking stops.

  5. Warning

Using anything other than a dry-silicone spray lubricant will cause the rollers to slide rather than roll.
