Monkey costumes are popular around Halloween, and it's easy to see why. Many people think monkeys are cute, and the costumes are easy to make at home, which can save you money. This basic monkey costume is versatile and can be turned into any type of monkey from a movie or cartoon. Plus, no special skills are needed--as long as you know how to cut and glue, you're good to go.

Buy a dark brown, long-sleeved T-shirt and dark brown pants. Using light brown construction paper, cut out an oval that is 12 inches long and six inches wide. Hot glue this oval to the front of the shirt. This measurement is based on a medium-sized adult costume. Feel free to change the size of the oval according to the size of the person wearing the costume.

Hair and Makeup

Use gel or mousse to slick your hair all the way back. If you have long hair, secure it in a bun at the nape of your neck. Use black liquid eyeliner to draw a small dot on the tip of your nose. Use dark brown liquid eyeliner to frame your face all the way around the hairline. Starting at your hairline, the brown eyeliner should come in to your face about one inch, except in the middle of the forehead. In the middle of the forehead, the eyeliner should come down about one more inch to form a widow's peak. (See the image in the "Resources" section for a guide on the face shape.) Finish off your makeup by placing big circles of blush on your cheeks. Make sure the blush is bright pink and thickly applied.
