Things You'll Need

  • Gray bath towel

  • Scissors

  • White or gray long-sleeved shirt

  • Hot glue gun

  • Wire hanger

  • Black felt or fabric

  • Gray knit cap

  • Gray pants

  • Black shoes

  • Gray face paint (optional)

With just a few materials, you can make a stingray costume in about half an hour.

When it comes to choosing a costume, dressing up as an animal is often a popular choice. Usually though, farm animals are the ones that come to mind. People often overlook sea creatures or dismiss them as being too difficult to make. That is not always the case. Stingrays, for example, are a great choice for a homemade costume and people will be impressed with your original choice.

Step 1

Cut the gray towel into the shape of an upside down triangle. This will be the body of the stingray.

Step 2

Lay out your long-sleeved shirt facedown. Spread out the arms. Keep your towel in the shape of an upside down triangle. Glue the towel along the sleeves and shoulders of your shirt.

Step 3

Straighten out a wire hanger. Take your black felt or fabric and wrap it around the wire hanger. Seal the fabric together with your hot glue gun. This will be the barb of your stingray. Glue it underneath the bottom half of your towel.

Step 4

Cut out two small circles from your remaining black fabric. Glue these onto the front of your knit hat. These will be the stingray's eyes.

Step 5

Put on your costume and shoes. The outfit is complete, but you can paint your face gray if you want an additional touch.

Warning

Make sure both edges of the wire hanger are completely covered.
