Pastel-colored paper and paper doilies make charming decorations for a little girl's birthday party, tea parties and bridal or baby showers. Make a paper cone filled with candy as a party favor for each of your guests. The cones can be hung on each chair and presented to the guests when they arrive, or arranged in a basket and handed out when they leave. Paper cones are inexpensive decorations, and several can be created in an hour.
Things You'll Need
- 12-inch-square colored card stock
- Spray adhesive
- 12-inch-round white paper doily
- Double-sided tape
- 2 yards organdy ribbon, 1-inch wide
- 1/8-inch paper hole punch
- 1 1/3 yards cording
- Craft glue
- 4 charms
Place the point of a compass in the center of a 12-inch square of colored card stock and draw a 12-inch circle. Cut out the circle.
Apply spray adhesive to one side of the circle. Center a 12-inch-round white paper doily on the circle. Press with your hands to adhere.
Cut the circle into four equal quarters. Each quarter will make one paper cone.
Roll a cone with the doily on the outside and overlapping the two straight edges. Place double-sided tape between the overlap to hold the cone together. Repeat with the remaining circle quarters.
Cut four, 18-inch lengths of 1-inch-wide organdy ribbon. Attach a 2-inch piece of double-sided tape halfway down the length of a ribbon. Press the tape on the ribbon over the seam (back) of a cone, 1 1/2 inches below the top edge. Wrap the ends around to the front of the cone and tie into a bow. Repeat with the remaining ribbon lengths and cones.
Hold a paper cone with the bow (front) facing toward you. Punch a hole an inch below the rim on each side of the cone, using a 1/8-inch paper hole punch. Cut a 12-inch length of cording. Thread the ends of the cording through the punched holes for the handle. Knot the ends of the cording to hold in place. Repeat this step for the remaining cones.
Apply craft glue to the backs of four charms. Position a charm in the center of each tied bow. Allow the glue to dry.
