Bed bugs are a pest that live off the blood of their victims. Bed bugs are nocturnal and come out when you are sleeping. They can leave bite marks but are not known to carry disease. While this may be true, nobody wants to have bed bugs. Consult a professional if the infestation is encompassing a whole room. When you have bed bugs in a book, there is a way to handle the situation yourself without pesticides.

Step 1

Space bag.

Place the book in a space bag and use your vacuum to seal the bag. Or open the vacuum food-sealer bag and place the book inside it. Follow the manufacturer's direction and seal the bag.

Step 2

Take the sealed book and place it in the freezer.

Take the sealed book and place it in the freezer. Leave the sealed book in the freezer for 14 days. This will kill the bed bugs and their eggs.

Step 3

After 14 days remove the book.

After 14 days remove the book from the bag and vacuum or wipe out any dead bugs.

Remember not to store anything in the area around an infested bed. Also, when the books are clean, store them in an airtight container.
