How to Make Tailgate Pull-Apart Bread

Game day food is all about indulgence. Cheese and carbs are always a crowd pleaser. This quick and simple appetizer will become a favorite no matter the sport is playing on TV or at your hometown stadium. After all, you have no control over who wins on the field but you can make sure you're the one who always wins on the buffet table.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 large loaf crusty (not soft) bread

  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted

  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese

  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro or chives

  • Additional desired toppings

Tip

Add bacon! Or avocado, jalapeños, or sour cream. Make it your own!

Step 1: Make 1-Inch Cuts

Make cuts diagonally across the bread every inch or so, making sure to leave the bottom crust intact, do not cut all the way through the bread.

Step 2: Cut in the Other Directions

Make diagonal cuts in the other direction to form a diamond crosshatch pattern, making sure not to cut all the way through the loaf. You want the bottom to still be intact.

Step 3: Add Melted Butter

Place on a baking sheet, pour the melted butter over the loaf, making sure the butter gets between the cuts.

Step 4: Cover and Bake

Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

Step 5: Add Cheese

Remove from oven, top with cheese making sure to press the cheese in between the cuts. Return to the oven uncovered for another 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted.

Step 6: Add Toppings

Sprinkle with cilantro and any other toppings you desire, and serve warm.
