Things You'll Need
Two 8 x 24-inch pieces of cotton fabric
One 8 x 24-inch piece of cotton batting
Washable marking pen
Drinking glass with round edge
Sharp scissors
Straight edge
Pins
Four 6 1/2 x 8-inch pieces of cotton fabric
Two 6 1/2 x 8-inch pieces of cotton batting
1/2 inch double fold bias tape (click here to make your own)
Step 1
Cut two 8 x 24-inch pieces of cotton fabric and one 8 x 24-inch piece of cotton batting.
Step 2
Create rounded corners on all of the pieces by tracing around a drinking glass and cutting along the line.
Step 3
Sandwich the batting between the two long pieces with the right sides facing out. Pin in place.
Step 4
Use a straight edge and a washable marking pen to draw horizontal lines 1 1/2-inches apart. Sew along the lines.
Tip
If your fabric slips while sewing, try placing perpendicular pins along each line and slowly sewing over them to keep the layers in place.
Step 5
Cut four 6 1/2 x 8-inch pieces of cotton and two 6 1/2 x 8-inch pieces of cotton batting. Round the two bottom corners on each piece.
Step 6
Sandwich the cotton batting in between the 2 pieces of cotton fabric with the right sides facing out and lining up the rounded corners. Open up the bias tape and with right sides together, pin along the raw edges of the straight edge. Sew along the first fold line.
Tip
You can purchase bias tape but the colors are limited. If you'd like to learn how to make your own in any color or pattern you'd like, click here.
Step 7
Wrap the bias tape around the raw edges. Pin and sew in place.
Step 8
Place the two smaller pocket sections at the ends of the longer rectangle piece. Match the rounded corners and pin in place. Baste around the edges with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Step 9
Add bias tape around the outer edge of the pot holder. Open the bias tape and pin along the entire raw edge of the pot holder.
Step 10
When you get to the end of the bias tape, fold over a 1/4 inch and pin in place. Overlap the other end about a 1/2 inch.
Step 11
Sew along the first fold line of the opened bias tape.
Step 12
Wrap the bias tape around the raw edge, then pin and sew in place.
Now when the timer goes off, you'll be ready to slide both your hands into each of the pockets and grab that hot pan right out of the oven.
