Jimmy Buffett fans know how to party, and if you are looking to throw the perfect theme party for the Parrothead in your life, go a little further than just mixing up some margaritas. Turn the words and titles of Buffett's music or books into inspiration for a party everyone will be talking about "Come Monday."

When sending out invitations, announce the Buffett theme and invite guests to come decked out in their best beach-bum attire. Use parrot or palm tree images on the invites. Perhaps attach the invites to pairs of flip-flops you picked up at the dollar store. Discount stores like that usually have all sorts of beach-themed items you can pick up for party favors as well. Stock up on beach balls, anything with a tropical theme and, of course, margarita glasses.

"Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes"

Decorate to set the mood for a laid-back, beach feel. Depending on where you live and the weather, this might be easy or take some effort. Lay out sand and set up a volleyball court on which to use beach balls. Inflatable palm trees set a mood in climates that don't have them naturally. Place some pink flamingos around the yard and fasten some inflatable or stuffed-animal parrots on trees and buildings. Tiki torches, tropical flowers, paper lanterns and a pirate flag all bring a Parrothead party to life. Use bright, tropical colors for tablecloths and other decorative items you put out.

"Cheeseburger in Paradise"

Jimmy Buffett obviously is inspired by food, so let his songs and books inspire your menu. Offer up the ultimate cheeseburger bar, with every topping you can think of. Use his novel "Swine Not? A Novel Pig Tale" as an excuse to roast a pig. Don't forget the french-fried potatoes. Serve "Boat Drinks" such as the "Bama Breeze" out of a "Tin Cup Chalice." Be creative and try to brainstorm ideas from your favorite Jimmy Buffett works. The great thing about most tropical drinks is they are easy to make as nonalcoholic versions just by omitting the booze. Of course, you'll likely want to set up a pretty amazing margarita station, too, and label it "Margaritaville."

"Too Drunk for Karaoke"

Despite the Buffett song title, karaoke is an excellent activity for a Parrothead party. Music is a must, especially Buffett music. Pepper in some Beach Boys, steel-drum music and reggae. For other activities, visit a costume shop for supplies that allow guests to don a "Pencil Thin Mustache." Offer a few shaving kits and dare guests who already have facial hair to comply. Have a limbo contest, a bonfire and any other beach activity of which you can think. Have fun with your Jimmy Buffett theme and you are sure to be "King of Somewhere Hot."
