Things You'll Need

  • Coin

  • Metal ring, also called a keyring

  • Swivel hook (optional)

  • Drill

  • Small drill bit

Use old coins such as pennies or tokens to create a keychain.

Whether you have tokens saved from a carnival, pennies stashed away in a piggy bank or collectors coins sitting around the house, consider using these metals to create a keychain. This simple, do-it-yourself craft can give new purpose to old coins and can be accomplished with a drill and a few tools. Avoid using a valuable coin because you will have to drill a hole into the coin to convert it into a keychain.

Step 1

Use a small drill bit to drill one hole into one side of the coin, close to the edge. The hole should be big enough to fit a metal ring through.

Place the metal ring through the hole on the coin.

Step 3

Attach a swivel hook to the metal ring through the bottom hole of the hook so that your keychain can attach to a bag or purse. This step is optional.

Step 4

Place keys onto the metal ring.

Step 5

Add color to the coin by painting it with nail polish or paint. This step is optional.
