Things You'll Need

  • Satin

  • Flexible foam hair rollers

  • Faux suede fabric

  • Fabric glue

Make your own ring rollers for a jewelry box compartment.

A jewelry box is a decorative storage container for your earrings, necklaces and rings. It can have compartments and drawers to help you organize your shiny things. However, if the compartment for your rings does not have cushioned rolls, your rings can look like a mess. You can make a rolled ring holder for an existing jewelry box to help keep your pretty things close at hand and convenient. You insert the band part of each ring between the rolls so you can see the stones or decorative part at first glance.

Step 1

Measure the compartment in your jewelry box where you want to keep your rings. Cut a piece of satin fabric to these dimensions.

Step 2

Choose several flexible foam hair rollers of the same diameter. Remove the fasteners from the ends of the rollers. If the rollers are too long, cut them to fit snugly into the ring compartment with a pair of large scissors. Fit the rollers together side by side inside the ring compartment. Fill up the whole compartment with the rollers and fit them snugly. They should be slightly mashed together but not springing out of the box.

Step 3

Cut a piece of faux suede fabric the same length as the rollers. Make the faux suede wide enough to cover a roller when it is wrapped around the outside with ¼ inch or less of overlap where the edges meet. Cut a piece of faux suede the same size for each roller.

Step 4

Remove the rollers from the ring compartment in your jewelry box. Wrap each roller in a piece of faux suede and glue it in place along the seam with fabric glue.

Step 5

Put a bead of glue on the outside of the faux suede along the seam. Press it along one edge of the satin piece. Repeat for the rest of the rollers. Place them side by side on the satin so that they press against each other. When you put the satin on the bottom of your ring compartment, the rolls will be slightly pressed together and offer resistance when you press a ring band between them.

Step 6

Set the satin and roller combination into the ring compartment of your jewelry box. Now you are ready to organize your rings.

Tip

You can use any fabric for the bottom piece and roller coverings. A tacky fabric, not a slippery one, works best for the roller cover pieces.
