Making a shirt just your size and style is a good feeling. T-shirts can be altered for many different purposes such as sports; leisure activities; or normal, daily wear. The cutoff shirt with open sides is typically a style for men worn especially during exercise. The process is a quick and fairly simple way to make your shirt look and fit just the way you want. The steps below can be adjusted according to preference.
How to Make a Cutoff Shirt with Open Sides
Things You'll Need
Wash and dry your shirt. This will ensure you know how the shirt fits in case it shrinks in the wash.
Lay the shirt on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles.
Draw a line with a permanent marker down the side of the shirt beginning at the seam underneath the sleeve. Cutting on this line will allow the sides of the shirt to open. Make the line as long as the opening you would like on the side of the shirt.
Cut off the sleeve using the scissors. Follow the seam of the sleeve and cut in a circular motion. Leaving the shirt like this allows for smaller openings on the sides of the shirt.
Cut on the marked line, beginning at the bottom of the sleeve hole opening, to open up the side of the shirt.
Perform steps three through five on the other side of the shirt.
