Dressing as a hamster is something that many young children will enjoy. You can use the costume for a play, Halloween, or for simply dressing up around the house. Add or remove any element of the costume that you wish to make a costume individualized to your child. The base for this costume is a light brown sweat suit, which you should be able to find at a discount clothing store in the fall. If you cannot find a sweat suit, then you can use brown pants and a long sleeve shirt. Attach the ears to a headband if you do not use a hood.

Things You'll Need

  • Light brown hooded sweatshirt
  • White felt
  • Pink felt
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Light brown felt
  • Light brown pants
  • One pair light pink socks
  • One pair light pink gloves
  • Brown face paint
  • Makeup sponge
  • Pink face paint
  • Bunny buck teeth

Cut out a large oval from white felt the same size as the child’s chest. Glue the oval to the front of the sweatshirt with hot glue.

Cut an oval shape, about three inches long and wide from light brown felt. Hot glue the oval to the seat of the sweatpants.

Cut two circles from light brown felt to make ears. Cut two smaller circles from pink felt and glue inside the brown circles. Glue the two ears to the top of the hood.

Have the child put on the pants and sweatshirt. Have the child wear sneakers. Cover the sneakers with a pair of pink socks to make the hamster’s feet. Place light pink gloves on the child’s fingers to make the hamsters other feet.

Paint the child’s face light brown. Use the makeup sponge to apply the paint. Paint the child’s nose pink. Give the child rabbit buck teeth to wear to complete the costume.
