Clean the Tips

Step 1

Fill a small bowl or cup with paint thinner.

Remove the cap from the paint pen.

Step 3

Hold the paint pen upside down so the tip is immersed in the paint thinner.

Step 4

Carefully wipe the paint pen tip with a paper towel. Test the paint pen on a scrap of paper. Repeat as needed.

Replace the Tips

Step 1

Remove the cap from the paint pen.

Step 2

Grasp the paint pen tip and pull it straight out of the paint pen. Take care not to wiggle the tip when removing it.

Look at the bottom of the paint pen tip and purchase replacement tips that match. Push the paint pen tip firmly into the paint pen.

Step 4

Shake the paint pen vigorously for a full minute.

Press the tip of the paint pen to a scrap of paper several times until the tip fills with paint. The pen is primed and ready for use when the tip fills with paint.

Thin the Paint

Step 1

Remove the paint pen tip from the paint pen. Tug it straight out of the pen, taking care not to wiggle it to avoid damaging the pen or the tip.

Use an eye dropper to put a small drop of paint thinner into the pen.

Step 3

Push the paint pen tip back into the paint pen.

Step 4

Shake the paint pen vigorously for several minutes so the paint thinner can mix with the paint.
