Things You'll Need

  • Felt

  • Scissors

  • Marker or white chalk pencil

  • Ruler

  • Dimensional fabric paint

Felt is a versatile and easy to use fabric that is found in fashion, home decor items and crafts. It is a fairly absorbent fabric, and to keep it pliable you need to use fabric paint. Given the slightly rough surface of felt, it's easier to apply paint with a squeeze bottle to create precise, fine lines rather than using a brush.

Step 2

Draw the design you want to paint on the piece of felt. If you've chosen a dark-colored felt, use a white chalk pencil. If you've chosen a light-colored felt, use a marker.

Step 3

Write a word or draw a shape on a scrap piece of felt. Use the glitter glue to trace the word or shape. Practice until you are comfortable using the bottle to draw on the felt.

Step 5

Set the painted felt aside and let dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions before using it.

Tip

Hold the glue bottle straight up and down to get a steady stream of paint; you may feel more comfortable and in control holding it at a slight angle and applying a bit more pressure. Just feel confident in your technique before moving on to your project.
