The Chamberlain 371AC remote control can be programmed to open your automatic Chamberlain or Security Three-Button Remote garage door. The remote can also be programmed to turn on the garage opener's lights without actually opening the door. To use this feature, you must have a multi-function door control that features multiple buttons. All remotes come with a replaceable lithium battery that has a life of up to five years. Once programmed, the remote can both open and close the garage door from up to three car lengths away.

Program Remote Control

Press the "Learn" button on the garage door opener. This is the console that's mounted inside the garage and opens the door. The LED light will start glowing and will stay on for 30 seconds. You must complete the programming within that time. You may need a stepladder to reach the opener.

Press the large button on the remote control. After programming is complete, this will be the button you push to open and close the garage door.

Wait until you see the garage door opener lights blinking. According to the user manual, when you hear two clicking noises come from the remote control, programming is complete.

Press the button on the remote to open or close the garage door.

Program Opener Lights

Press and hold down a button not already programmed on the remote control. This button will control the light on the garage opener. Make sure the garage door is closed before you begin programming.

Press and hold the light button on the door control. This device is usually mounted on a wall and is near a garage door leading into the house.

Press and hold the lock button on the door control. You should be pressing three buttons at this point.

Wait until the lights on the door opener start flashing. According to the user manual, you can let go of all of the buttons when this happens.

Press the button on the remote control that you just programmed to control the lights. If the opener lights turn on and off, then the programming was successful. If not, repeat the steps.
