A cherry pie

Often a cook is not satisfied with just baking a pie but instead tries to make it more attractive to those who would eat it. Although there are many ways to dress up a pie, making it shiny from an egg wash is simple and quickly done. By applying a coat of egg wash to the crust before baking it, you too can produce a pie that is as appealing in looks as it is in taste.

Step 1

Crack the egg and separate the yolk from the white, allowing the egg white to fall into the bowl as you pass the yolk from one half of the shell to the other half. Alternately, crack the egg directly into a bowl and use the spoon to scoop up the yolk and remove it from the bowl, leaving the egg white.

Step 2

Add 1 tbsp. of water to the egg white and mix thoroughly together with a whisk.

Step 3

Dip your brush into the wash and lightly paint the paint crust. If your pie has a top, then you can give it an egg wash too.

Step 4

Bake your pie according the recipe.
