A decorative flange conceals the inner workings of the latch mechanism.

As the name implies, an EZ-Set door latch is easy to assemble, disassemble, install or remove. You take apart the EZ-Set door latch by reversing the order of the steps used to assemble and install it. EZ-Set latches come in a variety of styles. Some include doorknobs and others are deadbolt-type latches. Only three major parts and four screws make disassembly simple and similar for most models. No special tools or advanced carpentry skills are required for this job.

Step 1

Locate the screws on the flange on the inside of the door. Remove the long screws that hold the latch together with a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 2

Pull the latch pieces on the inner and outer sides of the door to remove them. You may need to slide the blade of a butter knife between the flanges and door panels to loosen them. Because the latch components fit snugly together, you may have to jiggle them to separate them.

Step 3

Unscrew the plate on the edge of the door with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the plate. Pull the bolt portion of the latch through the hole in the edge of the door.
