Real frosting, made with plenty of sugar, probably seems like lots more fun to make than fake frosting. But sometimes you might need to make something that looks like frosting, but is not perishable or edible. If you are decorating a cake for photographs or want to use cupcakes to decorate your kitchen, making real-looking fake frosting is a simple process that most people can master.

Step 1

Mix together equal parts plaster of Paris and water. The amount of plaster of Paris and water that you need will depend on the amount of frosting that you want to make. Stir the two ingredients together until the lumps have been smoothed out.

Step 2

Add more plaster of Paris, in small amounts, until you reach the desired consistency of frosting. The more plaster of Paris you add, the thicker the fake frosting will be. The mixture should coat the back of a spoon before you move on, no matter the consistency you desire.

Step 3

Frost an artificial cake with the fake frosting. Apply the plaster of Paris mixture on the cake with a spoon, and let it coat the cake.
