Things You'll Need

  • Lemon juice

  • Water

  • Cleaning rag

Deodorize your humidifier with lemon juice.

Humidifiers work to put moisture into the air, but sometimes an unpleasant, musty odor develops in a humidifier that leaves the room smelling uninviting. It's important to clean the humidifier with a natural deodorizing agent, because the use of chemical cleaners could produce harmful vapors that you do not want your family to breathe.

Step 1

Fill the humidifier with water as you normally would, and pour in 4 tsp. lemon juice. Bottled lemon juice works well, but if you use fresh lemon juice, strain it well so no pulp is left.

Step 2

Turn on the humidifier and let it run for one hour. The lemon juice will deodorize the humidifier and give the room a fresh, citrus scent.

Step 3

Discard the water and lemon juice mixture, rinse the humidifier water tank, and wipe it with a clean rag.

Step 4

Repeat every one or two weeks or as needed to keep the humidifier smelling clean and fresh.
