  • Doorbell wire

  • Wire running kit

  • Wire clippers

  • Screwdriver

  • Tape measure

  • Electrical tape

  • Masking tape

Doorbells are a useful addition to any home's entryway, offering a distinctive tone and an alternative to harsh knocking sounds. Friedland manufactures a number of different doorbells. Whether the signal is transmitted wirelessly or through electrical wiring, the wiring connections of Friedland doorbells are of the standard type. With some wiring equipment and the right technique, you can wire a Friedland doorbell in a few steps.

Step 1

Measure the approximate distance from the Friedland doorbell to the doorbell chimes with a tape measure.

Step 2

Cut two lengths of doorbell wire to this measurement with a wire clippers. Allow a few extra feet to spare.

Step 3

Pass the lead of a wire running kit into the hole behind the doorbell and work your way toward the chimes.

Step 4

Pass the lead of the wire running kit out through the hole in the wall behind the chimes.

Step 5

Tape one end of the lengths of doorbell wire to the wire running kit with electrical tape. Tape the opposite end of the lengths to the wall to prevent them from falling in the wall.

Step 6

Pull the wire running kit back through the hole behind the doorbell, pulling the lengths of wire through the wall from the chimes to the doorbell.

Step 7

Remove the tape from the wire runner, separate it from the doorbell wires and set it aside.

Step 8

Wrap the wires around the terminal screws on the back of the doorbell chime and tighten them in place with a screwdriver.

Step 9

Wrap the opposite ends of the lengths of doorbell wire around the terminal screws on the Friedland doorbell and screw them into place with a screwdriver.
