If you're wearing a medieval costume for Halloween, a school play or to attend a medieval festival, you can make your costume more authentic by adding on period accessories. For example, you can create a medieval sword from craft materials that will look like a sword that could have been used hundreds of years ago. Once the sword is complete, you can wear it on the belt of your costume.
Cut out a rectangle from cardboard that measures 24 inches long and 3 inches high.
Cut out a square from cardboard that measures 5 inches on all sides.
Trim one end of the rectangle onto a point.
Trim the edges of the square to make it a circle.
Cut a 3-inch slit into the middle of the circle.
Slip the flat end of the rectangle into the slit, and slide it down 6 inches. The 6 inches will be the handle of the medieval sword.
Apply a line of hot glue along the are where the rectangle meets the circle. Allow the glue to cool completely.
Wrap yarn around the 6-inch handle until the the handle is approximately 1/2-inch thick with yarn.
Paint the sword with silver-colored acrylic paint, and allow it to dry completely before putting the sword into your belt.
