How To Mix Cucumbers With Water and Vinegar

Save

Cucumbers are generally a vegetable for warm seasons. They grow on vines in gardens or in pots, and are available in varieties good for both slicing and pickling. A cucumber is ready to be eaten when it is firm, green and crisp. Cucumbers are a low-calorie snack. They can be added to sandwiches, pickled or made into a salad with water and vinegar.

Things You'll Need

  • BASIC
  • Cucumber
  • Knife
  • Ceramic bowl
  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • Sea salt
  • Red pepper
  • Vidalia onion
  • OPTIONS
  • Olives
  • Peppers
  • Mint
  • Basil
  • Sugar
  • Apple cider vinegar

Basic

Peel two to three cucumbers. Slice and place in large ceramic bowl.

Peel sweet Vidalia onion and then dice. Add to bowl.

Pour in 1-1/2 cups each of white vinegar and water.

Add 1 tsp. sea salt and 1 tbsp. red pepper.

Stir ingredients together and refrigerate for a day or two.

Options

Dice cucumbers instead of slicing. This will give a different texture to the salad.

Add olives or diced peppers to change the taste.

Sprinkle mint or basil instead of the red pepper.

Add 1 tsp. of sugar to sweeten the mixture.

Use apple cider vinegar in place of white vinegar.

Tips & Warnings

  • To remove excess water from the cucumbers, after slicing them, lay them out on paper towels and sprinkle lightly with salt.
