Things You'll Need

  • Paper towel

  • Rolling pin

Hazelnuts have a tough shell which can be tricky to crack, especially if you do not have a nutcracker. Fortunately, it is simple to put together your own makeshift nut cracking device. Hazelnuts are a delicious, filling and healthy snack, rich in unsaturated fat, fiber and other essential minerals. Especially popular during the Christmas holiday season, hazelnuts can be eaten raw, roasted, salted or can be used as an ingredient in other main dishes and desserts.

Step 3

Hammer the hazelnut, gently, using a rolling pin. You do not need to smash the nut completely; simply hit the nut hard enough to crack the shell. Once the shell is cracked, pry open the hazelnut with your fingers and enjoy your nut.
