A garment steamer board is a hanging board that allows you to steam your clothing against it. Steaming clothes gets rid of pesky wrinkles and takes less time and effort than ironing. If you don't want to buy a garment steamer board, you can make your own with a few simple materials. As long as you can sew, you can create your own cover for the board as well.

Step 2

Measure and cut out a piece of fabric 6 inches longer and 6 inches wider than the metal sheet.

Step 3

Lay the fabric out flat and cut a 2-inch square out of each corner of the fabric. Pin the edges of the fabric together that you cut the squares from and sew them with a straight stitch using the sewing machine.

Step 4

Pin the 1/4-inch elastic to the unfinished seams on the fabric cover and sew it in place with a zigzag stitch. Cut off any excess elastic when you're finished sewing.

Step 5

Place the fabric cover over the metal sheet.
