If you're looking for a quick grab-and-go snack, look no further than these homemade Uncrustables. Inspired by the popular store-bought version, this recipe is both delicious and easy. What's more, the fillings are totally up to you! Go for the classic combo of peanut butter and grape jelly or mix things up with other nut butters and jams. You can even try other fillings, like Nutella, honey or ham and cheese.
Things You'll Need
1/2 cup nut or seed butter
1/2 cup jam or jelly
12 or 14 slices of bread (about 1 loaf)
Softer bread works best for homemade Uncrustables. Also, depending on the exact size of your sandwich cutter and bread, you might need more or less filling.
On a slice of bread, add about 3/4 tablespoon of nut butter to the center. Spread into a circle.
Avoid adding too much filling. If the sandwich is overstuffed, the bread will tear.
On another slice of bread, add about 3/4 tablespoon jam. Spread into a circle.
Place it on top of the first slice, jam side down, to assemble the sandwich.
Using a sandwich cutter and sealer involves two steps. First, press the base into the bread, making sure to cut through both slices.
Next, press the top knob to seal the sandwich. Pull away the excess bread and then remove the sandwich from the tool.
Use the excess bread to make bread pudding.
Repeat with the remaining slices of bread, nut butter and jam.
To freeze homemade Uncrustables, place the sandwiches on a tray in a single layer. This will keep them from sticking together. Once frozen, store the sandwiches in a resealable freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature and enjoy.
