Rosewood is deep-hued with darker wood grain.

Rosewood is a term used to describe most any type of dark-hued wood. However, true rosewood comes from the Brazilian rosewood tree and smells of roses for years after it is cut. Both are valuable and must be cleaned regularly to ensure they maintain their deep tone. Any rosewood item you own, whether it is a musical instrument, carving or furniture, must be treated carefully to keep it hydrated. Regular cleaning will keep your rosewood beautiful for years to come.

Step 1

Wet a soft cotton cloth with warm water and wash away any spills or significant debris on the rosewood. If there is none, forgo this step.

Step 2

Dust the rosewood with a feather duster to remove any dirt before polishing. Avoid using any other type of duster, as they drag dust across the wood's surface and cause minute scratches.

Step 3

Soak the soft cotton cloth in furniture polish specifically formulated for use on wood. A quality brand is important, as the polish protects the rosewood from damage between cleanings.

Step 4

Work the furniture polish into the rosewood by rubbing the cotton cloth in small circles over its surface. Apple firm pressure while polishing to ensure the oil penetrates the wood's surface.

Step 5

Dip a baby toothbrush into the furniture polish to reach any nooks in the rosewood. Use only a baby toothbrush, as its bristles are soft enough not to scratch the wood's surface.

Step 6

Polish the wood's surface with a microfiber cloth. The cloth adds a shine to the rosewood and lifts excess furniture polish that could collect dust.

Step 7

Repeat the cleaning process once every month to keep your rosewood healthy.

Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the furniture polish if you have sensitive skin.
