Formica plastic laminate is commonly used to cover kitchen surfaces such as cabinets. Formica is available in a number of styles and finishes, such as matte, high-gloss and metallic. Kitchen cabinets laminated with Formica are sensitive to heat, abrasives and harsh cleaners, all of which can damage the finish. Clean Formica kitchen cabinets with a mild household detergent to remove dirt, grease and food residue.

Things You'll Need

  • Mild dish soap
  • Cloth or sponge
  • Towel
  • Glass cleaner (optional)

Fill the sink with warm water and add 1 or 2 tsp. of dish soap.

Dip a soft cloth or sponge in the soapy water, and wring it out.

Wipe the Formica cabinets with the damp cloth, working on one cabinet at a time. Dip the cloth or sponge in the sink, and wring it out as it gets dirty.

Rinse the sponge or cloth with clean water, and wring it out. Wipe over the Formica surface to remove any soap residue.

Dry the cabinets with a lint-free towel. If additional cleaning is necessary, spray the cabinets with glass cleaner and wipe with a dry cloth.
