Things You'll Need
Cotton swabs or soft cloths
Marble fireplace surrounds lend a touch of class and add to the overall style in your home. Although they are easy to clean, the marble tiles can crack and chip easily if they are hit hard enough with a heavy object. If some of the marble tiles have cracked, you do not need to remove the surround. You can simply repair each tile as is within the surround.
Put on your goggles so you do not get pieces of marble tile or hardened cement in your eyes.

Clean the entire marble surround with acetone, using a soft cloth or cotton swabs. Don't use so much acetone that it drips—simply wash over the surface and allow it to air dry.
Use the chisel and mallet to remove any loose pieces of tile within the cracks, as well as any broken pieces still adhering to the cement underneath.
Scrape away adhesive from the base surface, where the broken pieces were, using the chisel tip.
Fill the cracks using epoxy and a small paintbrush.
Fill in any holes inside of the tiles using a mixture of marble dust and polyester resin. Combine the dust and resin in a bowl until it turns into a paste. Then use the putty knife to carefully fill the holes with the mixture.
Allow 24 hours for the repairs to dry.
