Epoxy resin is a type of plastic that begins in two parts that you combine to create a single substance. Epoxy resin begins as a liquid, but hardens with time, giving a solid finish in clear or a variety of colors. The process involved in the creation of resin is exact, as improperly mixing the two components can result in problems.
Step 1
Prepare for the resin creation process with proper safety gear and a well-ventilated work space. In their liquid forms, both the resin and the catalyst are irritants, so protecting your skin and eyes is an absolute must.

Step 2
Carefully read all the manufacturer instructions for the brand of products you are using prior to beginning. Some resin products do not stay liquid for long, so prepare ahead of time.
Step 3
Measure out the liquid resin into one measuring cup according to the manufacturer instructions. Your measurement should be as exact as possible.
Step 4
Measure out the catalyst into a separate measuring cup. Make sure this measurement is as exact as possible, otherwise the epoxy resin may not set up or cure properly.
Step 5
Add the liquid catalyst to the measuring cup containing the liquid epoxy resin and stir thoroughly until the liquid is completely clear.
Step 6
If you choose, add colors or other additives at this point. If any bubbles appear in this process, use a heat gun on a low setting and run it over the top of the resin to eliminate the bubbles.
