If you find yourself with a mattress that has been stained by urine, clean it as quickly as possible so the stains and odor don't linger. Urine can often be cleaned up with products that you already have around the house. You may need to find an alternate place to sleep for one night while the mattress is being treated, but it will be worth it to spend the rest of your nights on a mattress that is comfortable and clean.
Step 1
Remove all bedding from the mattress and wash it. If the mattress has a pad or cover on it, remove and wash that as well.

Use a towel to blot up as much moisture as possible if the urine-stained area is still wet. You may even want to stand or sit on the towel to try to soak up moisture that has gone deep into the mattress.
Step 3
Soak the affected area with hydrogen peroxide or a solution consisting of 50 percent white vinegar and 50 percent water. Allow the liquid to sit on the area at least five minutes before using another clean towel to blot up the moisture.
Step 4
Allow the area to dry, and then sprinkle baking soda over the surface of the mattress. This will absorb any moisture that remains and help to eliminate lingering odors. Leave the baking soda on the mattress overnight. The next day, vacuum the mattress to remove the baking soda and then put the clean bedding back on.
Warning
Hydrogen peroxide can bleach your mattress, so you may want to use a vinegar solution if the mattress is not already white.
